Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to manage nursing services, including the provision of quality patient care, performance improvement, and compliance with regulatory standards and accreditation standards. The CNO is responsible for all aspects of patient care and safety, and directs the delivery of nursing care, treatment and services.  The CNO acts as the primary nurse executive with authority granted in conjunction and collaboration with the Regional CEO, Medical Staff and Board of Directors.  All duties will be accomplished being ever mindful for the promotion of a safe and therapeutic environment for both the recipients and providers of nursing care and other ancillary personnel. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Implement hospital’s strategic and operational plans
  • Lead clinical services through the integration, coordination and direction of patient care within the overall operation of the hospital
  • Ensure high-quality, cost-effective healthcare consistent with the mission and values established by the organization in conjunction with any government regulations, licensing and accreditation requirements 
  • Oversight of Safety, Infection Control, QIC (and all relevant quality measures), Laboratory Services, Imaging Services, Pharmacy, Respiratory Therapy, Education and Dietary Services
  • Implement safe practices and provides knowledgeable guidance and evaluation of the environment of care management, including life safety (fire prevention), security, hazardous materials and waste management, emergency management, infection control, medical equipment, and utilities
  • Participate in strategic planning and process improvement of the facility
  • Identify necessary training and provide guidance to clinical educators on the development and effective implementation of clinical education and training for staff
  • Work closely with hospital administration to hire, develop and maintain appropriate staffing levels
  • Ensure that patient-care, clinical and staffing standards are met
  • Advise senior management on best practices in nursing and patient care
  • Work with leadership to establish compensation and benefit programs for nurses
  • Direct the planning of new patient services
  • Initiates safe practices and is knowledgeable about current hospital policies and procedures. Reviews and updates clinical policies and procedures as indicated.
  • Participate in cross-departmental decision making
  • Conduct performance improvement activities and represent nursing services at board of director meetings
  • Create a nursing environment that fosters collaboration
  • Partner with physicians to ensure a smooth workflow
  • Ensure that nursing standards are upheld
  • Maintain regulatory and compliance approvals and accreditation. Ensures that proper techniques, practices and standards of care are utilized according to DNV, DSHS, CMS, BNE and other appropriate accreditation, licensure or regulatory bodies
  • Work with senior management and medical staff to develop strategic plans
  • Cultivate relationships across functions and departments
  • Serve as a spokesperson for nursing

Other Job Functions

  • Attend staff meetings or other company sponsored or mandated meetings as required
  • Travel to all facility locations as required
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or enrolled in a graduate program in one of these curriculums, required
  • Current Basic Life Support, ACLS, and PALS or ENPC) certification through the American Heart Association, required
  • 4+ yrs supervisory experience with inpatient and ER hospital services, required
  • 5+ yrs of nursing experience required: emergency department and critical care experience preferred
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state where position will be based, required
  • Knowledge of JCAHO or DNV regulatory compliance, required
  • Position requires fluency in English; written and oral communication
